Specialist DNA Services
Our specialists have years of experience and use world-leading technology to offer a range of forensic DNA testing services, designed to provide a meaningful result when conventional DNA profiling has not succeeded.
We are experts in DNA profiling, DNA case review and DNA analytical services, and have worked within the UK Criminal Justice System for many years, developing long-established relationships that are built on our core foundations of trust and integrity.
Our collaboration with associate partners DNA@King’s also allows us to deliver an exciting new suite of technologies to our customers, increasing their capability in forensic investigation.
What our specialist DNA service provides
- DNA profiling: DNA profiling techniques continue to advance, bringing increased sensitivity. Casework materials, including DNA extracts, are typically retained for many years and can be retested to generate new profile information that may assist in progressing a historical case.
- Review and analytical services: We offer both case review and analytical services that may be delivered separately or as an integrated service to maximise the potential from archived materials. This service may be applied across a range of case types, including unsolved investigations involving murder, sexual offences and missing persons.
- STRmix™: We recognise the importance to investigators in maximising the value from mixed DNA profiles. To that end, we have invested in world-leading technology STRmix™ to assist in DNA profile interpretation.
- Y-STR profiling: Supplementary analyses, such as Y-STR profiling, are making a growing contribution to the outcome of sexual offence investigations. We use the best analytical solutions to ensure the best possible outcomes for victims. This Y-STR profiling technique has been granted ISO 17025 accreditation and can be applied across a range of case types. It is most suited to sexual offences where little or no material from the male is detected in routine testing.
- DNA analysis and extraction: Standard approaches to DNA analysis do not always yield the best outcomes, so our DNA team continues to work on new methods to maximise the yield and quality of DNA extracted from more challenging samples, such as bone, teeth and faeces. Our specialist DNA extraction techniques may be applied in a range of cases, including those involving unidentified human remains, decomposed or burnt body parts, missing persons and the deposition of faeces at crime scenes.
